The Babbling Brook

This is a project in interactivity.  I have developed a musical piece to accompany a poem that I have written. The order in which the music plays will be based off of a random number generator and therefor result in a unique experience each time it is performed.  This poem, to be performed in full effect should have 3 to 4 people that will echo each other after each phrase in conjunction with the music and sound effects.  This creates the sense of the babbling of water.  I recommend those reading the poem to be in the middle of the room and those playing the audio to be around the perimeter. This piece can be performed by a minimum of 6 people.  The generator values to be used by the "players" is 1-100. This will determine what pieces are played. The players also have full control over the volume of their pieces and can choose to fade them in and out as they please.  The values to be used by the "speakers" is 1-10. This is to be how many seconds each speaker waits before starting their line. (In the case that a single person wishes to perform this piece, it does still work well.  If you open up multiple tabs on your web browser you can create the same cascading soundscape.  You will lack the surround sound experience but it offers itself as a unique background music track or meditation piece.)

The Babbling Brook

Here the trees may filter sunlight
Nor does the sky ever shine bright
A heavy moss upon the stones grow
The leaves do rustle when the wind blows
And here the quiet little brook
Babbles loudly when it’s seen
To tell the world of all the troubles
It has kept beneath its gleam
As I sit here by the brook side
I think of all the fears I hide
Every secret, full of sorrow
I tell to it, to ease my mind
And once I’m through I feel much lighter
No more is the forest dark
For every bit of light is brighter
I rest my head upon the bark
And when I leave the brook falls quiet
Its spirit voices fill the air
It holds my feelings in its currents
Keeping all my secrets there
